Responsible breeders are concerned with the betterment of the breed and work diligently to breed healthier dogs with good temperaments. After selecting a breeder, you should screen the breeder.  Here are some valuable tips you should consider when selecting a new puppy.

  • Contact several Breeders.
  • Ask to see the dogs even before the purchase is binding.
  • Visit the Breeder and see if the puppies are well cared for.
  • Ask what health testing has been done on the parents.
  • Look behind the scene and check everything out.
  • Get to know the environment of the mother dog and puppies.
  • Observe the adult dogs. Are they very anxious or very outgoing?  Or are they reserved initially, but then trusting.  Please remember the saying: The apples does not fall far from the tree.
  • Make sure the dogs and puppies have a family connection.  The puppies may reside partially exposed in the living area.  See where they are raised and how they are raised.  How much of a free outlet do they have?
  • How is the cleanliness of the their accommodation and care of the dogs.  The Coton coat should be neither shaved nor tangled in adult Cotons.
  • A responsible and well-respected breeder will never see you a dog over the phone or by fax or by e-mail.
  • A responsible and well-respected breeder will never haggle about the price.  you are buying a puppy and part of your family -- it is not a thing.
  • A responsible and well-respected breeder is a member of a pedigree dog breeding association.
  • A responsible and well-respected breeder will give a vaccination certificate and a vet exam record.  Additionally he will give you papers from the breeding group.
  • He will ask you to take your pup to a vet you trust so that the pup is healthy.
  • He will give you a number of suggestions on the way, for example, for your behavior in the first few nights, for feeding, etc.
  • The responsible breeder will be screening you, too, looking for the best home for each puppy
  • A responsible and well-respected breeder will always be there for you.
